The MakeupArtist Extra Ordinaire 2017 competition has been our most engaging projects yet. Phenom Communications worked with our Client from inception through to the end to execute a first of its Kind Makeup Artistry Competition. We provided consultation at the inception for what would become the competition framework; advising on the best strategies to successfully execute the competition. Moving beyond the consultation phase, we focused our energies on implementing our strategies.

platform development & social media management

We commenced bringing the project to life with the development of a web platform that would serve as the information and registration centre for the competition. We also created and managed 3 primary social media pages for the competition for a period of 3 months. Our social media efforts focused mainly on instagram, where much of the publicity and campaign for the competition was run. Instagram also served as the primary entry platform for contestants. Phenom Communications oversaw the entry strategy process to ensure that each entry was executed in a way that garnered publicity for the competition and raised awareness about the initiative.

sponsorship & influencer onboarding

With the Makeup Artist Extra Ordinaire 2017 Competition being the maiden edition and a new brand, we focused our efforts on establishing brand credibility and integrity. To achieve this, Phenom Communications on boarded 4 major Beauty Brands and 2 top beauty influencers as Sponsors and Mentors respectively. We negotiated and secured sponsorship in form of products and training from Maybelline New York Nigeria and Zikel Cosmetics and product contributions from Voan Beauties and Taos Cosmetics. We also on boarded Joyce Jacobs of Joyce Jacobs Beauty and Omontese Akhetuamen of Beauty Cook Studio who joined Jane Ogu of Flawless Faces by Jane as mentors for the competition. These strategic partnerships, helped the Client leverage on already established brands and powerhouses within the industry to secure its place as a force to be reckoned with.

3 Day training

Taking the burden of our client, Phenom Communications planned and executed the 3 day training and mentorship session for the Semi-finalists in Lagos. The semi-finalists were hosted to a series of Masterclasses from Sponsor Brands; Zikel, Maybelline and Flawless Faces by Jane. Mentorship sessions from Pro-MUAs; Joyce Jacob of Joyce Jacobs Beauty, Omontese Akhetuamen of Beautycook Studio and Jane Ogu of Flawless Faces by Jane and a creative beauty photography session from Iju Asonibe of New Jerusalem Creations. Phenom Communications provided a complimentary PR and branding session for semi-finalists; sharing some important Pr and branding tips to help nurture their new and burgeoning Makeup businesses.

finale & press

Consulting with our client and an events company, we advised on the right venue, design and concept for the finale event. Concluding our work on the project, Phenom Communications secured considerable media coverage for the competition on Bella Naija and in Vanguard Allure Magazine.
